Cleaning your home can be an intimidating task, but it doesn’t have to be! Knowing how to clean your home quickly is a skill that will make your life easier and save you time.
Having a clean home and space has many benefits that will make you want to keep your home tidy and organized. A clean and organized home has been shown to promote physical health, lower stress and anxiety, increase productivity, save time, and help you sleep better.
Whenever I feel anxious and not in control of my life it’s normally because my home is unorganized and I haven’t cleaned the space in a while. Even taking 10 minutes to clean your living room, bedroom and bathroom can make a BIG difference.
Sometimes though your home needs more than a quick 10 minute tidy. You need to clean your space and don’t want to spend hours doing it. That’s why I created a fast cleaning system that covers all the rooms in your house so can get your house clean and tidy quickly.
I promise you will feel so accomplished after completing this quick house cleaning routine!

Get Motivated
I always start my cleaning routine by opening the windows, putting on a great playlist, and lighting a candle. A nice smelling home goes a long way towards making your home feel clean and cozy.
I’ve been using this white sage candle recently from Amazon and I love the smell.
Let’s get cleaning!
Quick Clean Home Routine
This cleaning routine should only take you about 1-2 hours. Remember though not all houses are made the same. I originally created this whole house cleaning list for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. If you have a bigger house with multiple living spaces and more than 2 bedrooms it may take you longer than 1-2 hours, maybe closer to 3 hours.
Here is a general overview and the timeframe for each room.
- General tidy and clean [10 minutes]
- The bathrooms [10-20 minutes]
- The kitchen [20 minutes]
- The bedrooms [10-20 minutes]
- The living room [10 minutes]
Total time = 60-90 minutes
Print the checklist!
General Tidy and Clean
Go from room to room and start your general tidy.
- Put items away in their designated spot, or sort into a pile to go back to the room where they belong.
- Bring any dishes to the kitchen.
- Papers can go into one big pile and be sorted later, just put them into one place.
- As you move throughout the house if you notice anything that you want to donate or sell, set it aside that way you remember to post on facebook marketplace.
Next, strip all the linen you want to clean, I normally just do bedding. Grab all laundry and sort into piles.
Last, all trash goes into the bin. Sometimes I’ll carry a garbage bag with me and just empty all the trash bins throughout the house as I go.
Start a load of laundry. I always start with the bedding that way at the end of cleaning I have clean sheets to put back on the beds.
The Kitchen
I normally start with the kitchen. It is one of the biggest rooms in many homes and typically has a lot of cleaning that needs to be done.
- Sort dishes. Load the dishwasher and start. Hand wash all remaining dishes and lay out to dry.
- Now that all the counters are clear, spray down with all purpose spray and wipe down with microfiber cloth.
- Wipe down cabinets and appliances quickly with cloth and spray.
Side note: we will do the floors at the end.
Before moving on to the bathroom, head back over the laundry room and switch the laundry. If there are clothes that need to be folded and put away, do it immediately.
The Bathrooms
Bathrooms are daunting to clean but I don’t want you to stress about it. Honestly it feels so good afterwards to take a shower in a clean bathroom – it is so worth the pain of cleaning.
To clean the bathroom I like using lysol wipes, the Clorox toilet wand, this long handled shower brush, and my favourite microfibre cloths.
Start by spraying down the shower/bathtub, that way the product you are using will have time to start breaking down any soap scum.
Clean the toilet. Then I use lysol wipes to clean the rest of the toilet.
Spray the mirror and clean. Then clear off all surfaces if you haven’t already. Wipe all surfaces down with lysol wipes. Lastly, wipe down cabinets.
Again, head to the laundry room and switch the laundry. If there are clothes that need to be folded and put away, do it immediately.
The Bedrooms
By now the bedding should be clean and dried so make the bed. If you haven’t opened the windows yet, crack them and get some fresh air moving through. Even in the winter I’ll crack the window for a few minutes.
Start dusting from the highest level, any art, dressers, and side tables. I use a microfiber cloth to do this. Spray windows with cleaner and wipe down. Using a swiffer cloth I quickly run it over the baseboards.
Lastly, run the vacuum and you are done in the bedroom.
Again, head to the laundry room and switch the laundry. If there are clothes that need to be folded and put away, do it immediately.
The Living Room
Open the windows to get some fresh air running through the room. Start by dusting from the highest level, shelfs, art, side tables, and the coffee table.
Spray windows with cleaner and wipe down. Using a swiffer cloth, dush the baseboards.
If you have couches where you are able to remove the cushion covers, remove the covers and run them through the laundry. I don’t do this every time, maybe once every 3-4 months.
Lastly, vacuum carpets and under the cushions of the couch and you’re done!
